Dinner & a Movie

Last night ended my first week in Newcastle, it was a friday night and my classmate and I just wanted to relax and what better way than with a dinner and movie.  We headed out to a restaurant on Darby street called Goldberg's which was highly recommended for great food.  Darby street in a part of town where a lot of the locals hang out for dinner as there are many restaurants and cute eating areas around.  It was a nice evening and we chose to sit outside to enjoy the breeze.  The menu looked great! I decided to have the roasted pumpkin and pancetta pasta with penne, fetta, basil pesto, parmesean, shallots, and roasted cashew nuts and my two friends had the grainfed Scotch fillet (steak) with black pepper dressingsteak and roasted vegetables and the grilled Jewfish fillet with roasted potatoes, tomatos, and balsamic syrup, YUM!   We had an appetizer of bread topped with corn, pesto rocket, and fetta.  Everything was just fantastic! I'm not sure how to define the food at this restaurant because it was like a bistro with a fusion of different foods cooked and plated fancy, but the atmosphere and price was laid back and reasonable.

Specials for Friday night

Bread
Bread with corn, pesto rocket, and fetta

Pumpkin with Pancetta
Roasted pumpkin and pancetta pasta with penne, fetta, basil pesto, parmesean, shallots, and roasted cashew nuts

Grainfed Scotch fillet (steak)

The bread was soft on the inside but crispy on the outside and had a nice pesto flavor with melted feta on top it was just delicious.  My pasta dish was so full of flavor and what I have fallen in love with here in Australia is the pumpkin.  They put roasted pumpkin in many dishes or will even just have pieces of roasted pumpkin as a side dish and it is the best! My pasta had roasted pumpkin pieces in it as well as a light creamy sauce with pieces of crispy pancetta in it.  I wanted to save half for later but it was so good I ate the entire thing!

Full after dinner we headed to the theaters and sat back and enjoyed Sherlock Holmes.  Student discounts of $12.50 from $15.50 deserved a cheer from us and the large theater with plenty of room and leather seats was also a plus.  Thank goodness its friday!
