Weekend of Love!

This month has literally flown by with all the wind and rain we've been getting the last few weeks. May is almost over and June is just around the corner.  I apologize for the lack of post, but more will come as summer arrives in full swing.

I have time for a quick post of a wedding I attended this past weekend.  Some good friends of ours shared their perfect day with us. They were married in a church in Burien and from there we headed over to Jumbo Chinese on Rainer Ave for more celebration and food!

There was an abundance of food with a traditional 10 course Chinese meal and an abundance of fun with singing and dancing a plenty.  I took a few pictures, but it was not nearly enough to capture the extent of the reception, but gives you a taste.

Congratulations to the happy couple! Although the weather outside was typical cloudy Seattle weather, inside the church and restaurant it was full of love, laughter, friends and family.

Revisit of Indian Cuisine

It's been a while since I have been to an Indian restaurant.  I generally remember feeling like I did not enjoy their curries and that is a typical item on their menu.  There are two restaurants where I live owned by the same owners I believe, Ceders and Taste of India.  A few nights ago we celebrated some early birthdays at Ceders and it was a pleasant revisit for my taste buds.

We ordered family style and had the customary nan of which we tried both the spinach and garlic nan.  Nice, soft, and flavorful with the dipping sauce of cilantro and tamarind chutneys.  Our main dishes took a while to decide.... a while.  We finally came up with four: the tandoori surprise which had a mix of chicken, fish, lamb, and beef, the mango curry with beef, royal biryani, and chicken masala.

Garlic & Spinach Nan
(a little burnt but still delicious)

Tandoori Surprise
(Chicken, Lamb, Beef, and Fish. Served with sliced onions and lemons)

 Mango Curry with beef

Royal Biryani
(Classica Mughlai dish cooked with curry, Basmati rice,
cashew nuts, and saffron)

Chicken Masala
(cream based curry cooked in ginger, cilantro, curry, and a tomato sauce)

Tiramisu Cake

I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by how good everything tasted including the curries.  The Royal Biryani was not a curry, but a rice dish and it was one of my favorites.  It was spicy, but had all these great Indian flavors melded into the rice along with the vegetables.  The curries all were flavorful as well and with the basmati rice it was delicious. I'm not sure what about it I did not like before, but they're now back on my radar.  The four dishes and the nan was perfect between the 7 of us and what better way to end a meal than with tiramisu cake! Happy Early Birthday!

Sunset in Seattle

Ever feel like life is one big roller coaster with so many fast paced ups and downs?  Sometimes I just need to remove myself from all the stress and pressure and remind myself that there is more to life than what we see now.

Last evening, some friends and I spent some time enjoying the sunset at Carkeek Park.  It was a relief to hear the sound of the ocean and to be surrounded by open blue skies and water, to feel the breeze on my face, and see the beauty of the sunset.

Summer is coming!

Summer is coming to Seattle! Today the sun was shining with all it's might and I actually thought about turning on the AC in the car, but instead rolled down the windows. The night is approaching later and later during the evening as well.  Tonight at 8 pm the sky was blue and the sun still out.  Unfortunately, the warmth from the sun was absent, but I have hope that we will soon be seeing those wonder long Northwest summers!

Speaking of which, I had some nice summer meals outside today to enjoy the weather.  My friend and I headed over to Bakery Nouveau for lunch where we tried more of their great pizza.  I had the thick crust pepperoni with sausage this time and she had the mushroom with pancetta.  Good as always despite the limited selection we had from catching the end of the lunch rush.

My late lunch filled me up and dinner was only a few hours later so I was not quite hungry.   What's a good place for a light meal? I was thinking sandwiches and then it came to mind that I had not gone to Specialty's in a long while.  I always get their turkey & cranberry sandwich as it is a comfort food to me and so delicious!
I had half of a sandwich there and was content to bring the other one home for lunch tomorrow.

Green Leaf Lettuce, Sunflower Seeds, Wheat Bread.

Upon returning home and studying a bit, an attack of the munchies came and what better snacks to make then li hing apples and popcorn?? Odd combination, but let me just say that I did not decide to make the popcorn, that was my sister and it was a new flavor from Orville Redenbacher, chedder cheese! Strange, but intriguing.  I'm game to try. My apples were great! Her popcorn....not so great. It came out of the microwave bright orange and tasted drenched in butter.  I really could not taste any chedder.  Hint to Mr.Redenbacher, ditch the chedder cheese idea and stick with kettle corn!

Yum, li hing apples!

Curious chedder popcorn

It's so orange!

Wonderful day to enjoy the outdoors and eat some yummy food! .... well all except the bright orange popcorn, but we'll just forget about that one hehe.
