Headed Down South for some Fried Chicken!

Today I got to experience some good ole Southern food in Tacoma.  There is a little restaurant by the name of Southern Kitchen that makes some darn good Soul food.  Due to road detours, it took us good 20-30 minutes  to find the location of the restaurant and when we finally did we had about a half an hour wait before we got our food to go.  I have to say though, that wait was totally worth it!

Soul Food!

Good ole comfort food

Let me just say that the food here is awesome! We tried their fried chicken,  butterfish, and BBQ beef brisket with a choice of 3 sides for each entree.  We went wild and tried their mashed potatoes, candied yams, collard greens x 2, black eyed peas, okra, red beans, extra cornbread, and mac and cheese.  Delicious!! The fried chicken was moist with a light crispy batter that had a wonderful seasoning.  The brisket was soft and tender, falling apart as we cut into it.  All of the sides were so authentic and good, I can't say that I did not enjoy any of it.  The only thing that was not outstanding was the butterfish.  It was crispy on the outside with a nice batter, but did not particularly taste as great as the other dishes.

If you are in dire need for a fixing of Southern food, I suggest you take a visit to Southern Kitchen in Tacoma.  Although the general location of the restaurant is not in a very convenient location, it is worth the inconvenience. The restaurant is not overly huge, but it seats comfortably families for lunch and dinner.  The staff is nice, and their strawberry lemonade is awesome!  Happy sigh, satisfaction for the stomach today!
